Summary: not very good compared to their comedy act
Comment: I have seen their comedy act on HBO or somewhere and I dvr'd it and watched it over and over and showed it to all my friends, who loved it. When they made the HBO TV series, they changed up the sound of nearly all of the songs, neutering them and ruining most of them. It is painful to me to listen to the clips off of these albums and to listen to/watch the HBO series. Why take something brilliant and turn it into watered down garbage? The money I guess. Trust me, go to you-tube and look at the original videos of them doing their comedy act and see how much better they all sound than these awful remixs...

Comment: I bought these CDs for my little sister for her Birthday. When I asked her what she wanted this was flight of the concords. After I bought them for her i was able to listen to them and feel in love with them myself. Great witty lyrics.

Summary: A Riot and a musical surprise
Comment: I am a big fan of the HBO series "Flight of the Concords" and after a friend told me that she plays the CD every morning as she drives to work laughing hysterically I purchased the CD.
No surprise, and like the show, it's a scream. However in addition to the laugh quotient it is exceedingly well produced, and a musical mix that really exhibits their talent beyond the ridiculous lyrics.
Cudos to "the boy" and I remain a bigger fan than ever!

Comment: The stars of HBO's comedy series finally has its own full-blown soundtrack, and it's a gentle if pointed musical satire. The music is funny and full, and often the jokes are more musical than farcical. It allows Flight of the Conchords to poke fun at everyone from Radiohead to Ravi Shankar, from Prince to the Pet Shop Boys.
But part of the joke is that, on the show itself, the band is unaware of the fact that they're inept and over-reaching. So when a sweet sounding sound like "A Kiss is Not A Contract" suddenly buckles under lyrically and proclaims "you're as beautiful as a dream....or a prostitute." Just when you think the song might come off as conventional, out comes a squirting lapel flower. What you also get is that Jemaine and Bret are fond of the music they send up (kind of like Weird Al Yankovic without the broadness). They understand the music and the fans of it.
Why I only give this CD three stars is that the jokes -- like any humor -- eventually loses its punch. The most pointed humor, the anti-censorship "Motha'uckers", gets the gag over by what it doesn't say, kind of the way Jimmy Kimmel's "Unnecessary Censorship" skits work. "The Flight Of The Conchords" is good fun, almost on the level of The Rutles. Your need to have it will depends on your level of fandom for either the show or musical satire.

Comment: Jemaine and Bret are pretty terrific at what they do, they are a so-called novelty band, but turn out decent, easy listening tunes. The songs make more sense after seeing Flight of the Conchords season one, but work just as well on their own. 'Bowie' is an instant classic. My advice, if you haven't already: give your nipple antennae a twist and tune into the Conchords. Also, the cd-packaging is great, it folds out with cut-out Jemaine and Bret and includes a double-sided poster. Neat.
